Celia Aaron – The Bad Guy

Sebastian Lindstrom lives his life in a black and white manner. Gray is not a place his brain comprehends. Some say he’s on the spectrum, others simply believe he’s a psychopath with little leeway for the common ground.

Camille Briarlane is a sweet, smart, science teacher. Her love of science is a passion she conveys to her students and keeps her hypothesizing about changing the world one plant at a time. Her compassionate side attributes to the kindheartedness she displays to students, friends, and her boyfriend. However, underneath ever cookie cutter perfect person lies the need to be a little selfish, maybe even a little naughty.

Celia Aaron, the queen of the dark romance certainly wows her fans with The Bad Guy. Aaron’s character development of Sebastian Lindstrom as the anti-hero, Camille Briarlane as the fair maiden, and Link as the hero is only the beginning of the twists and turns Aaron creates through her amazing stylistic skills. Aaron’s ability in creating anti-heroes the audience falls in love with and fallen heroes who readers loathe by the end is a true tribute to her talents. Her heroines also stand up to the prose audience through the dynamic character development and strength Aaron conjures up for these bright women she molds together. In true Aaron fashion, The Bad Guy travels down the road less taken and turns out to be sprinkled with a touch of nice and a smattering of naughty in all the right places. As always Celia Aaron delivers the reads her audience craves and The Bad Guy is one more to check off your TBR!

My name is Sebastian Lindstrom, and I’m the villain of this story.
I’ve decided to lay myself bare. To tell the truth for once in my hollow life, no matter how dark it gets. And I can assure you, it will get so dark that you’ll find yourself feeling around the blackened corners of my mind, seeking a door handle that isn’t there.
Don’t mistake this for a confession. I neither seek forgiveness nor would I accept it. My sins are my own. They keep me company. Instead, this is the true tale of how I found her, how I stole her, and how I lost her.
She was a damsel, one who already had her white knight. But every fairy tale has a villain, someone waiting in the wings to rip it all down. A scoundrel who will set the world on fire if that means he gets what he wants. That’s me.
I’m the bad guy.

BT Urruela – Thirty Days: Part Two

Nerdy Novelist’s REVIEW:

The second installment of Gavin Mazzerelli’s swipe dating adventure continues as BT Urruela truly hits the mark with Thirty Days: Part Two. Gavin struggles with depression opening up some self-destructive coping methods. He’s been working on restructuring his mental game and learning to appreciate life again. His good friend Bobby challenges him to thirty days of swipe dating to get him back out and enjoying life again. The struggling writer is desperate for money and inspiration making this a win-win for him. What he doesn’t filter into the equation is he might actually meet someone he wants to explore further. This is where the heart and head of Gavin begin to separate and he digs deep into what he wants versus what he needs. Unfortunately, he may just be too late in figuring himself out before the bubble bursts.

BT Urruela sprinkles a plethora of allusionary references, humor, wit, and realism throughout Thirty Days: Part Two that the story simply unfolds without a hitch. He also is the master of twists of fate and Catch 22’s. His juxtaposition between Sami and Megan is well plotted and only helps to perpetuate the dynamic development of Gavin through his mental journal back into writing and life itself. Gavin is demonstrating change over time, slowly climbing his way to change but in Urruela style he makes ever gain painstakingly tough and well earned along the way. While this is a cliffhanger, just like part one, Urruela leaves his readers thirsty for the final installment.

***Please note this is book two and is not a standalone.

Thirty Days: Part 1 – More than a journey through the swipe dating jungle.

I read Thirty Days – Part One the day it released. I’ve re-read it twice. I love the way BT Urruela infuses so many deep-rooted themes and breathes life into Gavin. Urruela is a gifted writer who delves into issues which plague many but few decide to pen.

Goodreads Review     Amazon Review

Nerdy Novelist Review:

On the surface, Thirty Days is the tell all of Gavin, and his journey through the 21st century swipe-dating jungle. However, BT Urruela unfolds a beautiful exploration of Gavin, developing several themes which strike at the heart and soul of so many in modern day society. Gavin is challenged to get back out in the larger dating pool after suffering a heartbreaking split with his girlfriend. It isn’t ‘just’ that easy for Gavin to jump back in, as he is plagued by demons which cripple him; his mental state is driving him into a place he doesn’t want to be, yet he cannot control its power.

Urruela’s artistry in developing the prose around Gavin’s experience is truly a testament to the diverse talents he uses as a writer. He provides humor and banter but is still rooted in opening the discussion of mental darkness, developing coping mechanisms, and dissecting the depth of complexity associated with dealing with demons and rising above the darkness. Thirty Days is the first installment of the trilogy and well worth every word read.

**WARNING: This is Part One of Gavin’s story, so it does end in a cliffhanger**

Excerpt:

“While I told Dr. Thresher the dream comes but a few times a month, it’s more like a couple times a week. Only instead, the man, or ‘mystery savior’ as I like to call him, never comes to my rescue in the dream. He never hops off his bike and climbs over the barrier and onto the ledge himself. He never talks to me about his own battle with depression, his abusive father, his ugly divorce. He doesn’t convince me to give life another go.

Instead, I jump. And unlike what many go their whole lives believing, I do die in my dreams. I do feel the nerve-rattling fall that seems like forever. And I feel the concrete like water as my skull splits against it.

I smoke a few bowls of Mary Jane to hinder the onslaught of feelings, confusion and desperation the dream always brings. It’s a time I’m not proud of, in a situation I never saw myself in, without an ounce of strength to deal with it all. I’m thrilled to be out of it. I’m even more thrilled to know, in my heart of hearts, that I’ll never be there again… never… but it doesn’t mean I’m not still affected by it all. If only we could erase those heart thrashing memories of our past. If only Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was based on reality. I’d erase every last one of them. I’d get along through life just like everyone else; content and without worry. I know others suffer too. But I also know, regardless of all that, depression doesn’t give two shits about any of it. It doesn’t give a fuck about how your peers are getting along, or whatever the fuck it says in the latest self-help book you’re reading. It only cares about you… and how it can tear you apart bit by fucking bit.”

Joshua Edward Smith – Gravity

Sir and Lisa’s journey explores the inner self and the road to a strong emotional and physical bond with a partner. Joshua Edward Smith’s final installment of the Entropy Series is a beautiful tribute to the human condition. While he uses the erotic nature of BDSM to convey the message, the Entropy Series is more of a philosophical exploration of the lifestyle. The complex themes of unconditional love, trust, and genuine happiness truly run their course through the series. From the unraveling of growing apart from one’s partner to personal tragedy, and rebuilding a life, The Entropy series covers it all and much more. Smith’s eloquent style deepens the richness of the text and leaves the reader critically analyzing the complex structures which exist among people with regards to the vulnerable acts associated with affairs of the heart. For a sophisticated and elegant read try your hand at the Entropy Series, you won’t be disappointed

My review of Gravity

Gravity is the third installment of Joshua Edward Smith’s Entropy series. The story dives deep into the relationship of Sir and Lisa as they have developed over the first two novels. Sir’s search for happiness, outside of the confines of marriage, takes him down a road of self-actualization. He arrives in a place ready for acceptance of a partnership but with a deeper understanding of mutual exclusivity; he is finally able to sooth his own restless soul. Lisa on the other hand has not quite completed her metamorphosis into the beautiful woman Sir believes her to be. Through continued self-discoveries Lisa is able to grow in Gravity.

Joshua Edward Smith pens the Entropy series with a beauty and grace unlike others in the genre. While initially his diction and structure choices appear simplistic, the connotative derivatives underneath are far more sophisticated and complex. His thematic developments of communication, compromise, and willingness to hold a partner to a specific set of standards by which they both crave and desire is the glue which holds this final installment together. Gravity is the perfect ending to finding one’s ultimate path to true love and respect.

Synopsis

He’s the boss. But she’s ready to take charge.

In this provocative and sexy* office romance, a cheeky new hire tempts a hotshot sports agent to mix business with pleasure.

Jenny: Job interviews are a bitch under the best of circumstances, but when your potential boss is the world’s biggest prick, that’s when you should simply walk away. It’s just that I need this job so badly—and I’m mesmerized by Ethan Mason’s piercing gaze. Men like him aren’t supposed to exist in real life. But under the tailored suits and GQ looks, Ethan simmers with barely restrained ambition. And no matter how hard I work to fight the attraction, I’m going to get burned.

Ethan: You don’t become a top agent without learning how to close the deal. I always get what—or who—I want, by staying cool and in command. Then Jenny Jackson walks into my office with her lush curves and “screw you” attitude and blows away my intentions of keeping things professional. All I can think about is exploring the perfect body hidden beneath those conservative clothes or shutting her saucy mouth with one hot kiss. Jenny’s worth breaking the rules over—if I can convince her to break the rules for me.

*By sexy, we mean sexy. Like, 18+ sexy.

Jenny’s got a sick father, bills stacked high, and a need for a better paying job. When she lands a once a lifetime interview, she never counts on it including the alpha bad boy boss. Ethan Mason’s looking for a new hire, someone good with numbers and statistics.  He’s set himself up with a specific mission statement and his business plan is on point. He’s found the perfect candidate on paper. However, Ethan Mason may have just met his match when Jenny Jackson challenges him in the interview. She has the nerve to get under his skin, and something about that gets Ethan fired up.

Sloane Howell knows how to turn up the heat between one hot alpha male and an equally sassy self-assured female opponent. Howell’s strength is in mixing the perfect blend of humor with the undertones and deeper layers of major themes. He tackles some big thematic topics and still leaves you with a smile on your face. Both Ethan and Jenny begin with hardened exteriors and an Eye of the Tiger attitude. Howell develops them through the help of strong sub characters, and the interweaving of the job at hand, the no holds bar business of Ethan’s sports agency. He demonstrates the vulnerability of both characters, but never deviates from the integrated with and pop culture, which provides Bossed with its lighthearted feel. Never a disappointment to read one of Howell’s masterpieces.

Jenna:

My life was perfect. I’d had it all: a doting husband, a career on the rise, and great kids. When all that comes down around me—when I lose the one person I need— it feels like my world has been swirling around the edges of a black hole. A never-ending despair that is consuming me. The vows I had made to him still haunt me, still feel as fresh as the day I’d spoken those words. But he’s gone and I don’t know how to move on. I’m not even sure I could.

Until… I meet him.

Chase:

I was happy. So happy. There was nothing more that a man could ask for. I had the kind of fairy tale that few get. I worked hard and played hard, but my family always came first. But when it all crumbled around me, I didn’t know how to carry on without the love of my life at my side. They say, ‘till death do us part’. I just never thought she’d go before me. Now, all I do is exist because I must, and my children need me. But some days, I can’t push past the pain and misery. Sometimes, I don’t know what the hell I’m supposed to do.
Then she comes crashing into my life. And in that instant, I know… My life will never be the same again.
