Derailed — by Kacey Shea

Jessica Moore a young woman accustomed to going without, happy to be the cheerleader for the dreams of others. Her boyfriend knows this and swoops in taking full advantage, leaving her feeling beholden, starving, and yearning for attention he’ll never provide.

Sean Willis plays for the team. He believes in his band and each member. The blood runs deep and he won’t break those ties. However, his new bandmate arrives with a lifestyle and moral code that sends warning flags up from the start. Sean can deal with a jerk but his girlfriend a sweet thing inside and out creates a bit of a challenge for Sean and his own family code of ethics.

Kacey Shea pens the heart of a hero and the fair maiden nicely in Derailed. Sean the rock star plays the roll on stage, but his head and heart behave different out of the spotlight. He feels for the situation Jess finds herself in and he knows a snake in the grass when he sees one. Shea sprinkles the right amount of vim and vigor into Sean making him a hero every reader roots for. On the other hand, Jess fights for everything she works for, and the need to make the world root for her once in her life keeps her spirit alive. She knows the higher road, but Shea creates her in a way the audience sits hand in hand with Jess on her journey. Sean and Jess are a must read!

Biography
Kacey Shea is a mom of three, wife, and USA Today bestselling author who resides in sunny Arizona. She enjoys reading and writing romance novels as much as her son loves unicorns, which is a lot.

When she’s not writing you will find her playing taxi cab to her children while belting out her favorite tunes, meeting friends or family for food and to share some laughs, or sweating it out in the gym. Kacey finds that picking up heavy weights repeatedly is good for her mental health as much as it is for the physical.

She has an unhealthy obsession with firefighters. It could be the pants. It could be the fire. It’s just hot. On occasion she has been known to include them, without their knowledge, in her selfies outside the grocery store.

Kacey one day aspires to be a woman hand model in a sexy photo shoot. You know, the woman’s hand raking across the muscular back or six pack stomach of the male fitness model. Yep, that hand.

Until that day comes she will continue writing sexy, flirty romance novels in hopes to bring others joy!

Sean Willis knows the difference between right and wrong. Sure, the bass player of Three Ugly Guys has made his share of mistakes, but when push comes to shove, Sean always chooses the high road. Now, even when things are unraveling with the band, he’s the voice of reason.

Until Jess.

She’s the only thing he’s ever wanted and couldn’t have. Not only is she his new roommate, but her boyfriend is the newest addition to 3UG. She’s more than off limits, she’s a temptress with her unaltered beauty and gentle spirit.

Jessica Moore has never been the center of anyone’s world. In fact, she’s familiar with being forgotten. Not too tall, not too pretty, not too smart; she’s just Jess. No stranger to scraping by for survival, she finds shelter in Coy Wright, a musician with dreams bigger than life. But when Coy skyrockets to stardom, Jess is thrust into a world in which she doesn’t belong.

That is, until she discovers an unexpected friendship. Sean treats Jess as someone special, important, and worthy of love. The feelings and desires he stirs within are dangerous, because despite Sean’s kindness and affection, she’s forever loyal to Coy.

What happens when doing the wrong thing feels right?

Jess and Sean’s friendship is put to the test, along with alliances in the band. Is love enough to derail their best laid plans, or will selfishness throw everyone’s success off track?

DERAILED can be read as a standalone or start with Trent’s story in DETOUR first.

Valentine’s Day

Jenna

“Please don’t move me. Tell me it’s Saturday, please?” My body aches from the two lovelies inhabiting my body.

His warm hand on my back soothes as he rubs slow circles, relieving the pressure on my lower spine. A soft kiss presses perfectly at the nape of my neck, serving as my alarm clock. My nipples harden as the massaging hand travels over my hip and follows the trail to my core.

“What time is it?” My growing belly comes alive with a few swift kicks.

“It’s hump day, darlin’, and we’ve got time before the others come knocking.” Chase’s morning wood pokes me as he wiggles in closer to my now hippo-sized body.

“The workout yesterday killed me. I don’t know how much longer I can keep going to the gym. These little ones won’t rest.” His hands continue to wander, and a moan slips out with the tweak of my stiffened nipple. “Mr. Houston, I’m awake now, and we have people waiting for us. Schools to drop off to—”

“It’s only five. We have time. And come on I must pay homage to Saint Valentine. I saw you wore those sexy red panties to bed. You know you want me to make you—” He slips under the covers and bites my ass. Muffled from below, “And you’re what 36 and a half weeks today? The babies will be here any day.  I need my time, darlin’. Please?” His voice muffles as he slides his hands between my legs.

“Oh, God you drive a hard bargain.” A grin spreads across my face as I think about this experience and how Chase makes me feel sexy and loved even when I am the size of a hippo.

Marshall never found me attractive during my pregnancies. I barely gained enough weight, worried his already distant attitude would force his hand right out the door. In hindsight, it would have saved me from a big headache and heartbreak. Although, I wouldn’t have Lacey, Jordon, and Jackson who shine like stars over my life.

Chase’s chin sweeps over my pubic bone. He pushes the covers aside, as he adjusts a pillow for me behind my back. All the while his other hand continues his assault on my hyperactive nipples.

“You good?”

A breathy, “Yes,” escapes despite the fact I’d like to be unmuted and really let go.

“Your beauty,” he pulls one side of my panties with his teeth, “just blossoms.” He tugs the other side. “Every minute, of every day. I can’t control myself around you.” He loops his fingers around the sides of my thong and pulls them down, slowly trailing kisses down my inner thighs as he removes them.

“Stop. Nobody on Earth thinks a woman at thirty-six weeks pregnant with twins is beautiful. Now blossoming and overstuffed like the turkey at Thanksgiving, maybe. We need to have your eyes checked.” He nips and sucks his way along my skin as he travels leisurely up the bulging curve of my belly.

“You stop. I’m in love with all of my girl. From her mind to her sassy mouth, her beauty and her loving natural ability to nurture each of the kids. I can’t wait to see you in action with our new blessings. Of course, I love your body with every ounce of my soul.”

“How do you do this?”

He begins his descent back down my neck and pauses hovering again above my swollen breasts. “Do what” He sucks and pops my nipple. It takes everything I have to not let out a satisfied scream.

“It’s five-twenty. This show better happen soon, or you may have to wait a long time—”

“Do what?”

“Make me feel—Oh. Fuck. Me.”

“With pleasure.” The devil in his voice is evident, as he plunges between my thighs, which I cannot see now because the mound protruding from my belly blocks the view. His tongue starts to flick the swollen bundle of nerves, and I lose all train of thought. From my quasi-side position, my leg trembles like a dog having his belly rubbed, but I don’t want him to stop. Sex with Chase rivals anything I experienced prior. He acts as though I am his muse, whether it be a quick fix or a long drawn out lovemaking session. He holds a special key to my libido I only became aware of once he unlocked it.

As my eyes glaze over and the euphoria overtakes me, giggles float through the monitor. I stiffen. He continues. A herd of feet patter down the hall and the thunder wanes.

“You ready for me?” Chase whispers undeterred from the young people on the other side of the door.

“Did you hear them?”

“They’re fine. They didn’t knock. Come back to me.” He secures a pillow under my belly and scoots in behind me. The creative positions developed over the last few months never slow him down. He continues fondling my engorged breasts, one of his favorite side effects of our current situation, as he finds my entrance and pushes forward. “You doing okay?”

I nod.

“God, I love you.” He thrusts forward, and I try to lean back but this body does not quite move like it did thirty pounds ago. My stomach growls as he continues thrusting and kissing me.

“We need to feed you, darlin’, babies are hungry. But making love to you, always priority number one. What do you need?” He’s trying to make me climax again—I’m so close. I lose myself in his assault. We both hit the high and our breathing resonates in the room.

“Happy Valentine’s Day!” He bites down on my shoulder and soothes it with a kiss.

“Let me up. I need to pee.” A light knock raps on the door as I swing my legs off the bed. I place my finger over my lips and sneak into the bathroom, grabbing my robe off the hook as I pass by.

“Where’s momma? Why was the door closed?” Lacey’s voice comes under the door as I clean up.

“She’s in the bathroom. Not sure why the door closed.”

“Well, shh. Connor and Caleb and me have a surprise. Get Momma back in bed.” Lacey commands Chase to follow her instructions. I stifle my laugh as I wash my hands.

The door opens with Chase scratching his head and wearing a grin on his face. “I’ve been ordered to get you back in bed. The princess has plans.” He washes his face and stares at me tying my robe.

“What?”

“You’re breathtaking. Our kids have the best momma on Earth.” He reaches for me and pulls me in close. “You need to gain a little more weight lady. These babies need fuel to grow.”

“Seriously, when we get to work I’m calling an eye doctor. I gained twenty-three pounds with the boys. I’m up to over thirty with these chunky monkey’s; I have a month left.”

“Nope, get in bed and we’ll see about feeding you and these two.” He places a kiss upon my swollen belly and swats my ass as I slide back to bed.

I settle the covers and the babies begin jabbing my ribs. I shift my back up against the headboard and take a few deep breaths, hoping they will settle down. We opted not to find out their sex, but we know they are identical. We figured with four boys and two girls already in our house it didn’t matter.

I glance at the clock, six twenty. My brain starts the checklist: Kids to school by eight, Wednesday, share day at the preschool, Chase and I meeting at eleven—A sharp pain radiates down the left side of my pelvic area but stops—Braxton Hicks, shit.

“You okay?” Chase settles next to me and picks up his phone.

“Yeah, just a little shifting by the inmates.”

“Momma, close you eyes. You too, Daddy.” Chelsea pops through the door covering her own eyes to let us know how. She plops onto the bed with Jacob and Jackson following.

“Ready?” Lacey yells from the hallway.

“Yep.” The three sing together. Chase slips a hand under the covers and squeezes my thigh.

“Surprise love day!” Connor and Caleb yell with cereal bowls in hand. Lacey clutches napkins and a couple of bananas in hers.

“Wow, thank you.” I croon at them but stop short as another twinge pulsates up the right side this time.

“What’s wrong?” Chase notices everything. The kids stop and stare at me.

“What? Why are you all still?” I shift to give Chase a piece of my mind but the gush of water between my legs stops me too.

“Kids, I think we’ll be missing school today.” Chase holds his hand up to me.

“Go get dressed.” Chase shoes them out of our room upon my instruction.

“Well, I guess today we meet the additions. Must have been my hormone injection!” His mouth turns up, and his pearly whites twinkle as he helps me out of bed and another contraction hits.

“Damn, and I missed breakfast.” I grab my suitcase.

“Maybe some clothes would be good.” He reminds me all I have on is a robe—now wet from my water breaking. I laugh and dig out my sweats from the drawer.

“Well, I guess we’ll always remember Valentine’s Day as our love day!” He waggles his eyebrows and wraps me in one last hug before we’re off to meet the new double-trouble Houston’s.

Thanksgiving

Jenna

“Are you ready Darlin’?” Chase opens my car door as we stand in front of a new home with Casey, our realtor, chomping at the bit to get the sale of the day on Thanksgiving eve.

“Of course. I hope this one is big enough to accommodate the kids.” He reaches his hand my way and helps me lift my five-month bulging belly out of the car.

“Mrs. Houston, I think this one will accommodate everything you asked for. It even has a mother-in-law suite off the kitchen.”

I still at the threshold, I haven’t been Mrs. Houston for more than three months but it still takes my breath away every time someone calls by it. Chase rests his hand on the small of my back, well it used to be small until the twins invaded every last inch of my ass and thighs.

“Yes, Mrs. Houston, I’ve got something that will accommodate everything you asked for.” Chase’s breath is hot in my ear as we follow Casey through the downstairs. I shake my head as he moves his hand lower pinching my ass.

“This kitchen is equipped with two ovens, two dishwashers, a prep sink, regular sink, and…” I’m trying hard to listen to her but Chases continues to wonder his fingers about my back and even leans down snaking his hand beneath my dress and up my thighs a touch. “This will be great for Thanksgiving as your family grows.” She finishes and turns around to face us with one of those plastered on sales smiles.

“Yes, this looks like it would do the job nicely. I saw on the map you have one already built on a sister cul-de-sac a few streets over. Is it still available?” I walk away from Chase’s hungry hands to join Casey at the sliding back door overlooking the outdoor living space and pool. Her phone rings and she excuses herself. Chase motions for me to come join him in looking upstairs.

“You need to cool your jets there Mifter.” He chuckles at my Lacey reference from a few years ago as we hit the top of the stairwell. Again, he leads the way straight into one wing which houses all the kids’ bedrooms, but instead of stopping to look at them he grabs my hand and pulls me down the hallway into the master bedroom, closing the door behind him.

He turns the lock and twists on his heel before striding my way and plastering me with warm kisses working their way from my ear, my neck, and onto the peeks of my cleavage pillowing over the top of the square neckline of my dress.

“What are you doing, Casey will be right back, and this is not even our home?” My complaint goes unanswered as he works his magical hands down my sides and back up to fondle my now erect nipples.

“Mrs. Houston, we haven’t had a moment—“ His fingers unzip the back of the dress, “alone since the honeymoon. That was Jake on the phone—“ He’s now trying to unclasp my bra while leading me backward as my knees hit the bed. “Don’t worry Casey has known us for years, she won’t judge.”

“No, please stop. This is wrong on so many—Oh my god that feels nice.” I shake my head at my own admission and push against his chest stopping his momentary feast.

“Why stop? You don’t sound convincing and it is a day away from Thanksgiving and I’d love to start giving thanks now.” He tugs at the shoulders of my dress. But were both caught off guard when the knocks on the door and giggles outside bring us back to the here and now.

“Damn him. He promised me twenty minutes to give thanks.” Chase kisses me on the check and turns me around refastening my bra and zipping my dress.

“What are you talking about. Have you lost your mind?”

He holds up his hand and unlocks the door as twelve little feet tromp into the master bedroom. Jake and Maria follow behind with sparkling apple cider and plastic glasses in hand.

“Congratulations! Your mothers are loading up the fridges now. The movers should be here any minute with the rest of the stuff.” Maria slides in, hugs me, and pours a glass of the pregnancy approved sparkling liquid.

“What are you talking about, Chase what have you done?”

He smirks and straightens out his collar. “Lacey, why don’t you tell mommy?”

“Daddy bought us a new house and we have room for all da kids.”

“What, wait this is a model.”

“Nope, this is ours, a new place to start our lives as the Houston’s. And this is a new bed, not the model home. We have a buyer for the house we’re living in and they wanted all the furniture too, so the rest of our stuff will be here later today.”

“Seriously, this is the one I wanted. And you made it happen.” I’m fighting back the tears because our previous house was a place we bought in a hurry so I could wipe away all the evils Marshall left behind. It wasn’t perfect, but it was home.

“I started on this before the wedding. Jake was supposed to hold back so we could give our thanks before giving everything to the kids, but he’s not very smart.” I glance over at Jake who wears a shit-eating grin because he loves to frustrate Chase.

“Can we go see our rooms?” Lacey flashes her doe eyes and Chase waves her on to go explore.

“So, we can really have our first married Thanksgiving in a house that will welcome our family from here forward?”

“Yep, and I promise to pay proper homage to you later—after I beat Jake to death. I love you Darlin’.” He pulls me in tight and I know without a doubt that he is my everything.

Apotheosis: A New Release from Joshua Edward Smith

There are pitfalls people fall in over the course of a lifetime, and Cynthia is one of those folks who has fallen. She’s a midlife divorcee who recognizes she needs a change in order to live her life and fill the empty void. Apotheosis tells the tale of one woman’s journey in search of owning her own happiness. Her sojourn takes her through an emotional cleansing of sorts and mixes her foundational beliefs with a blend of cultural experiences, self-esteem building, and the path to loving oneself and having the love returned.

Joshua Edward Smith takes the Pacific Northwest by storm in Apotheosis. He creates a lost soul in search of the road to salvation in his heroine. Cynthia is never the meek and miserable type woman, but she is struggling to make sense of a life she feels has been unlived. Smith demonstrates a realism in this work. He develops Cynthia as a modern day woman who lost her way and needs to rediscover the beauty of life, love, and happiness. Smith takes the reader through all the emotions, yet leaves the audience replete and satisfied in the end. Cynthia’s journey is one that should not be missed.
